How Fuelsy collects, uses, and protects your information across the iOS app and website.
Last updated: 17 April 2026
Who we are
Fuelsy (“Fuelsy”, “we”, “us”) is operated by Sohail, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom, as data controller under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. You can contact us at hello@fuelsy.co.uk for any privacy-related question or request.
Summary
Fuelsy is designed to work with minimal personal data. We do not require an account, we do not sell data, and we do not use advertising trackers. If you use the iOS app we may process your device location to find nearby fuel stations, store a push notification token if you enable price alerts, and store the list of stations you save as favourites. If you purchase Fuelsy Pro, Apple handles your payment; we only receive a subscription entitlement from Apple.
Information we collect
Precise location (iOS app only)
When you use location features in the Fuelsy iOS app, your device sends your current coordinates to our backend with each request so we can return nearby stations and regional data. Location coordinates are used only to answer that specific request and are not stored against your device, not retained in our databases, and not shared with third parties. You can turn location access off at any time in iOS Settings.
Favourites
Stations you save as favourites are stored on the Fuelsy backend, keyed to an anonymous device identifier, so they sync when you reinstall the app on the same device. Favourites are not linked to your name, email, or Apple ID.
Push notification token
If you enable price alerts, iOS generates an Apple Push Notification service (APNs) token for your device. We store this token on our backend so we can send you the alerts you have configured. You can disable alerts at any time in the app or in iOS Settings; when you do, we stop sending notifications and the token is removed from our systems the next time it becomes invalid.
Subscription status (Fuelsy Pro)
Fuelsy Pro subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not see or store your payment card, Apple ID, email address, or billing address. We receive only the signed transaction data that tells us whether your device is entitled to Fuelsy Pro.
Website analytics
The Fuelsy website (fuelsy.co.uk) uses Vercel Analytics to record aggregated, anonymised page views. No cookies are set and no personal information is collected through this analytics.
Support correspondence
If you email us, we will hold that correspondence for as long as is necessary to respond and keep a record of the issue.
Lawful basis for processing (UK GDPR Art. 6)
- Performance of a contract — for storing favourites, validating Fuelsy Pro entitlements, and delivering the paid features you have subscribed to.
- Legitimate interests — for handling your location in transient nearby-station queries, and for aggregated website analytics that help us improve Fuelsy.
- Consent — for push notifications, which we only send after you grant iOS notification permission and enable alerts in-app. You can withdraw this consent at any time.
Who we share information with
We use a small number of third-party providers to operate Fuelsy. Each acts as either a processor on our behalf or as an independent controller of the limited data they need.
- Apple — operates the App Store, StoreKit (for Fuelsy Pro subscriptions), and Apple Push Notification service.
- Vercel — hosts the fuelsy.co.uk website and provides anonymised analytics.
- Our backend infrastructure provider — hosts the Fuelsy API that serves the app.
Fuel price data is sourced from the GOV.UK Fuel Finder API. We send no personal or device information to that service. See our methodology page for detail.
We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with advertising networks or data brokers.
International transfers
Some of our providers (notably Apple and Vercel) may process data outside the United Kingdom. Where that happens, transfers are made under appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep information
- Location coordinates: not retained after the query that used them is answered.
- Favourites: kept until you remove them, uninstall the app, or ask us to delete them.
- Push notification token: kept while alerts are enabled; removed when it becomes invalid or you disable alerts.
- Support emails: kept for up to 24 months after the last message.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- request a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- ask us to correct data that is inaccurate;
- ask us to delete your data;
- ask us to restrict or object to processing;
- receive your data in a portable format, where technically feasible; and
- withdraw any consent you have given.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@fuelsy.co.uk. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
Fuelsy is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, surface a notice in the app.
